SABRE (original)
I would like you to meet Sabre. Many years ago now we decided to get a dog so off we went to our local cat and dog shelter. I remember my husband and I walking along the kennels looking for the right dog all of them needed good homes. How could we choose! I walked back about the third time when I saw Sabre, he was quiet in the back of the kennel. I looked at him and said hello he immediately got up and sat at the door and put his paw up that was it. I called my husband to come and look. He came home on the bus that day.
Sabre was quite a character taking the opportunity to get out whenever he could when my daughter went out to play.
He also liked chewing shoes and anything he could get his teeth into. He was my husband's best friend and spent many an hour walking in the hills. Sadly as he got older he was on constant medication. Some days he was like a young lamb at heart. Sadly the day came my husband was called from work and he decided enough was enough he had been a loyal dog to him and didn't want to see him suffer so he was put to sleep. He was 16 and i hope he enjoyed his life with us. My husband was quite upset and didn't want to get another big dog we had Rolo our Yorkshire Terrier that was enough but was it!
GYPSY
Gypsy was our cat, I wanted a little dog to cuddle but my husband didn't want another dog while we had Sabre so he suggested we got a cat. It was really strange I had been dreaming of white cats the day before I went to the cat and dog shelter and there were two when I got there. I got one out then the other and choose Gypsy who was called dotty at the time. I should have known with that name she was very naughty, didn't want to be handled and as long as she had somewhere warm to lie and food she was happy. It was strange as Gypsy took ill not long after Sabre was put to sleep with kidney problems. We tried everything but 4 weeks after Sabre, Gypsy also had to be put to sleep. I never knew how old Gypsy actually was. I will always remember her stealing a sausage from my husband's plate and running across the room with it hanging out her mouth like a cigar it was that heavy her chin was drooping.
ROLO
I always wanted a yorky but my husband didn't want to get another dog while we had Sabre. Gypsy wasn't the same as a yorkie and I couldn't cuddle her. So in a moment of weakness Rolo came into our lives. He was the last one so that's how he got his name. Rolo is still with us I don't know how but he is. He is a little sweety. When he was a puppy he was that small he used to pull my hair across the pillow to sleep on it.
SABRE
As I mentioned before when the old big dog was put to sleep my husband found it very hard to come to terms with he was so fond of him. The house was not the same without a big dog. We often take food on impulse to the cat and dog shelter and I just happen to see a hound. I talked to Joe about it and he decided he would come and look at it. Unfortunately the dog had taken ill and was in isolation. They tried to bring a small dog out to us but the lady had this huge fluffy ball in her hands and said to Joe what about this. This ball of fluff turned out to be a longhaired GSD pup. Once Joe had him in his hands that was it he was on the back seat of the car with me. I know it seems strange but Joe wanted to call the pup Sabre aswell. Old Sabre used to get called Sabby by us all the time, young Sabre is called puppy.
TESS
Sabre is now middle aged and my husband wanted to start training a new dog. After searching for a longhaired bitch and not being able to get what he wanted we ended up with our Tess . She doesn't half keep us on our toes and is always full of energy. Her favorite pastime is chasing her tail.
BENSON
Because I have rats my husband wanted some lizards again, thankfully they are not as easy to get as they used to be. I took him to see some parrots instead after looking at some African Grey we decided to get Benson. He is a typical Grey. He choose one person which luckily is my husband and I only do in extreme cases of attention seeking. He has been known to shout on my husband from the doorstep and also barks like the dog. The first noise he made was a beep from the mobile phone when text comes in as he learned that we came back into the room when it beeped. He likes to whistle the rocky theme tune taking turns with my husband.
